A

Abrasion measure
Method for determining the discard maturity of slings. A maximum wear of 10% is permissible for JDT sling chains.

Attachment point
The attachment point is an important part of the lifting equipment and connect the load by lifting, turning, roatating and moving with the crane. Attachment points are offered as weld-on points or with internal and external threads. They are attached to the lifting load by hooks, shackles or other connecting elements.
Attachment point - bolt-on type
(TPB - S)
Attachment-point TPB-S, bolt-on-type, consists of a link and swivel eye. Only screws acc. to ISO 4017 (DIN 933/10.9) or hexagon socket srews acc. to ISO 4762/10.9 can be used. 100 % crack-tested.

(TAPSK)
The TAPS attchment point, weld-on type with a swingable D-link for edge fastining is also known as swivel load frame, load ring, stop ring, eyelet or weld-on eye.

Attachment point, bolt-on type
(TAPG-S)

Attachment swivel
Attachment swivels are used as lifting equipement and are screwed or welded into the component to be lifted.
Automation
An automation is called by a state of modern technical development achieved by automation, which is characterized by the use of largely operator-free work systems.

B

Block Connector
The block conector is a chain connector and is used as a connecting element for mining chains. Due to its mechanical properties, which are significantly higher than those of DIN 22258-3, it is the proven connector for conveyors in high-performance mining.
Breaking force
Force at which the component fails and releases the load.
Breaking force
Force at which the chain fails in the tensile test.

C

Calibration
Loading of a chain with a given force in order to test each individual weld of the chain and to ensure that in usual range of use (up to load capacity or operating force) the individual links are subjected to elastic deformation only.
Chain preload
Chains stretch under load. The elastic behavior of chains must be taken into account when designing the system. The elongation of the chain is compensated by the pretension and thus a proper operation of the system is guaranteed.
chain run
Chain with flight bars and the corresponding chain locks.
Chain sling
Entirety of a load handling equipment with suspension head, chain, and connecting element.
chain sling modular system
Connection of individual components of a chain sling by means of a pin system. Individual components can be easily replaced.
Chain sling weld-on type
The individual components of a chain sling are joined together in a captive manner by means of a welding process.
Chain sling with hook
A hook chain falls under the generic term chain slings. The end fitting of a hook chain is always a hook. Depending on whether it is required in the modular or welding system, this can be a clevis hook, eye hook or automatic hook. Special hooks are also assembled to customer specifications.
Chain sling with hook and shortening clutch
Chain sling with hook and shortening clutch are always used where the load is asymmetrical and/ or the center of gravity of the load is not centered.
Chain sling with terminal link
Lifting chain with an oval link as an end fitting.
Chain strand
Single piece of chain, consisting of chain links.
Clamp
Grabs are always used where lifting and moving the load is impossible with the standard range of hooks or attachment points. This may be due to the geometry of the load, but also to the weight or other factors.
Clamping pin
Clamping pins are used to secure the loss of assembled components. For example, to secure bolts or to hold locks together in a load-free state.
Class 100 (ENORM)
Lifting chains with a nominal tension of 1000 MPa. Further development of grade 8 chains with approx. 25 % increased load capacity. Originally standardized in PAS 1061, which is currently being converted into DIN 21061.
Class 120 (MAXNORM)
The new generation of chain slings with a nominal tension of 1200 MPa. The load capacity has been increased by approx. 60% compared to grade 80.
Class 80
Chain slings with a nominal tension of 800 MPa. These chains are standardized in the DIN EN 818 series of standards.
Clevis connector
Connecting link between the chain and the master link or intermediate link. It is connected to the chain by means of a pin inserted into a fork connector.
Clevis connector (with shackle)
(GVS)
Der GVS Gabelverbinder mit Schäkel ist die Kombination aus dem GV Gabelverbinder (Ringgabel, Kuppelring, Kettenkupplung) und dem VS Verbindungsschäkel. Er bietet zum Anschluss an ein Anschlagmittel einen Gabelkopfanschluss und den Schäkelbolzen.
Clevis shackle
Connecting element between a sling chain and a receptacle for pins (e.g. link plates).
Clevis sling hook
Hook used as a lifting equipment. It is connected to the chain by means of a pin inserted into a clevis.
Combi Chain
Combi chain is a combination of forged vertical links and welded horizontal links and is used as conveyor chain for mining.
Conveyor
The conveyor is the operational transport system continuous conveyor for the extracted minerals. At the same time, it is also the roadway and guide of the extraction system. The necessary support points in modern plants are also connected to the face conveyor.
Coupling
(TBS, TBSE)
The coupling BS is a connecting element for chain slings and accessories, also known as coupling link, connecting lock, coupling connector or connecting link.
Crack test
Non-destructive testing of slings. This test is usually performed as a magnetic crack test.
Crusher
The crusher is typically located in the BSL. It is used to crush the extracted material to the correct size.

D

DEKRA
German Motor Vehicle Inspection Association. The Dekra is an independent expert organization that deals with product safety in many product groups worldwide. Originally, DEKRA comes from the automotive sector.
DGUV
Acronym for German Statutory Accident Insurance.
Discard criteria
Degree of wear at which the chain should be changed.
DNV
Det Norske Veritas - one of the leading classification societies for ships and offshore installations. Among other things, leading in the standardization of offshore containers.
DNVGL
The classification societies DNV and Germanischer Loyd (GL) merge - the name is changed back to DNV in 2021.
Double center chain conveyor
Conveyor chain in which two chains are mounted in a carrier symmetrically offset from the center of a carrier.
Drift
Mine workings to reach the mining operation (longwall).
Drift conveyor
Chain conveyor in the drift frame. It serves as a connection between the face conveyors and the belt conveyor.

E

Elongation
Elongation describes the deformation of a product under load. A difference is made between elastic and plastic deformation. Plastic deformation occurs with an overloaded lifting equipment and leads to discard.
Endless chain sling
Endless chain sling is available in the welded version or in the modular system. In both designs, the beginning and the end of the chain are connected to each other.
Eye hook
(TGH)
The TGH eye hook is a load hook with eye connection, also known as foundry hook or wide mouth hook. It is equipped without a safety latch and is especially suitable for use in foundries.
Eye sling hook
(TOE)
The TOE eye hook is a load hook with eye connection and built-in safety latch for chain or rope combinations.
Eyebolt
Eyebolt rigid load support point(e.g. according to DIN 580).

F

F-Class® Chain
The F-Class chain FCC is a JDT designed and patented conveyor chain for mining applications. It consists of forged vertical links with JDT short studs and welded horizontal links. Due to the lower overall height of the vertical link, longer service lives can be achieved or the nominal size of the chain used can be increased, thus achieving better conveying performance.

Flat Link Chain
Further development of the round steel chain, the vertical link is flattened to reduce the overall height.
Flat Point
(FP)
Der The Flat Point FP is a rotating attachment point for bolting on with an exchangeable screw, also known as a load block, load bracket, load swivel or swivel ring. Fastening by a screw according to DIN EN ISO 4014, strength class 10.9 crack-tested.
Flat Profile Chain
Special profile shape of a conveyor chain in mining.It was developed for low-building channel profiles and, thanks to the JDT Short Studs design, offers increased service life without any disadvantages in terms of weight and operating behavior.
Flat Profile Connector
The Flat Profile connector is a chain connector and is used as a connecting element for mining chains.
Flight bars
Flight bars for chain conveyors. The flight bars are used for material transport in the conveyors. The flight bars are mounted floating on the chain belt.
Forging technology
Clampless hot forming of metal.
Foundry hook
Hooks without latch with extra large openings to pick up hot loads easily and safely. The use of these hooks is only approved by the BG in exceptions (hot operations).

The AHKG hook for bolting on is a load hook/attachment hook with stable safety latch, which is bolted on via 4 holes.
Hook for multi bucket system
(SHA)
The Hook for Multi Bucket System ESHA for chain slings is like the automatic hook, a self-locking safety hook with clevis connector for installation in a chain sling, but specially designed for use with skiploaders. The hook is designed in such a way that in case of overload they do not break brittle, but hook opening visually increases and lets the load slowly slide down.
Hook weld-on type
(AHK)
The AHK hook for welding on is a load hook/attachment hook with stable safety latch for welding on.

Inspection groove
Conveyor groove with an opening in the bottom plate to allow maintenance work to be carried out in the lower run of the trough.
Intermediate /Joining link
Intermediate/ Joining links are used as a connection between master link and chain or chain and hook. In addition, it can also be used as an end link in chain sling.

JDT
JDT as short from foor Johann Dietrich Theile (1793-1873). The company founder of the company JDt in 1819.
Job order production
Service according to customer requirements and wishes.
Joining link

Chain for securing goods for transport by land, sea and air.
Lashing force
Maximum allowed force that may be applied to a tensioning device.
Lifting Equipment
Anschlagmittel umfassen alle Komponenten, welche zum Heben und Bewegen von Lasten benötigt werden. Dies beinhaltet die Anschlagketten und das jeweils passende und kundenorientierte Zubehör. Load handling equipment
Load handling equipment are devices that do not belong to the hoist and can be connected to the load handling attachment to pick up the load, e.g.: C-hooks, grabs, claws, clamps, traverses.
Load securing
Securing of the load during transport on land, on water or in the air. The securing can be form-fit or force-fit. Lashings are designed to hold the load in position even in hazardous situations.
Longwall
Area in which the mineral is extracted.
Lower run
In the lower run, the chain belt is guided back to the auxiliary drive.

M

Machining Technology
includes the manufacturing processes turning, milling, drilling, broaching, grinding and gear cutting. JDT masters all of these processes and thus meets the requirement for high precision so that the finished products, whether individual parts or components, meet the customer's exact specifications.
Magenetic chain sling
A special chain sling with 3 legs for the suspension of round magnets.
Magnetic crack testing (fluxes)
Non-destructive testing method described in DIN EN ISO 9934-1. The method can be used to detect near-surface defects (such as cracks) in components.
Marking
Marking of the lifting equipment that cannot be lost, clearly indicating the load-bearing capacity.
Master links
Connecting link to the crane hook
Material
Specially developed materials with special properties tailored to the application.
Measuring gauge
Gauge for testing the abrasion limit of sling chains.
Modular system
With the JDT modular system you can assemble chain slings from the different grades 80,100 and 120 as you need.

N

Norm
Document that contains rules for products, processes, technologies or services.
Standard Commitee Germany
Organ of the German Institute for Standardization e.V. (DIN), which is responsible for standardization in its field of expertise and knowlegde. The technical standardization work will continue in its future Subdivisions (e.g. working commitees, subcommitees) carried out. JDT is e.g. in the DIN standards commitee for Round steel chain (NRK) work and represent.
Standardization
Standardization is a process which tangiable and intangible objects are standardized by consensus for the benefit of the general public.

O

Offshore
JDT has been manufacturing welded chain slings for use with offshore containers since the early 1990s. Over the years, JDT has thus become one of the world's leading manufacturers of offshore chain slings according to DNV 2.7-1. For many years JDT has been type approved by DNV and supplies the corresponding chains to the different markets worldwide.
Operating power
The maximum static load of the chains (Working Force-WF). JDT recommends max. 62.5% of the nominal breaking force corresponds to a safety factor against breaking force of 1.6. The system configuration has a very large influence and decisively affects the necessary safety factor.

P

Pairness
Chain bands consist of individual chain strands which are connected with chain locks. The chain strands are supplied in pairs to allow the chain belt to run smoothly over the sprocket and to prevent the flights in the chain belt from skewing. For external chain conveyors and double center chain conveyors, paired chains must be used, with two chain sections of the same length lying next to each other in the conveyor.
Pan
Segments that make up the conveyor. The chain runs between the trough profiles and transports the extracted minerals. The trough has a so-called upper run and a lower run. Necessary for the circulating chain run.
Pin
The pin is the connection between the forging and the chain.Among others JDT also offers chain slings in the clevis system. The clevis system offers quick assembly and disassembly by means of a pin and dowel. This technology allows chain slings to be assembled in a very short time.
Plug-in connector
Plug-in connector can always be used where only simple holes are possible as load support. For example, for the transport of tools, etc.
Preload force
The force with which the lashing chain is pre-tensioned during tie-down lashing in order to press the load onto the loading surface. The pretensioning force must not exceed 50% of the max. tensile force (LC).

Qualified person for lifting equipment
Defined in § 2 BetrSichV as follows: "A qualified person within the meaning of this ordinance is a person who, as a result of his or her professional training, professional experience and recent professional activity, has the necessary expertise to inspect work equipment."

Quick latch
Quick latch for multi bucket systems includes a safety latch. The clevis connection allows an easy installation. Like the skip hook, is specially designed for use with skip loaders. The safety latch prevents the load from independently detaching. 

R

Ratchet lock
Device that is inserted into the chain sprocket during assembly work on the chain. It prevents the rotation of the sprocket.
Ratchet tensioner
The ratchet tensioner is a load tensioner for lashing loads. By operating the ratchet, the tensioning distance of the lashing equipment is shortened and the load is lashed.
Reinforcing-mesh-hook
The reinforcing-mesh-hook is manufactored and tempered in Grade 80.The hook allows safe transportation of construction steel mats.
Removeable lever
The removeable ever is part of the MAXNORM ratchet tensioner. The lever can be dismantled so that the lashed load and the ratchet tensioner are theft-proof.
Rim width
Opening dimension of the hook.

Round steel hook
(Special) hook bent from round material for load suspension.
Roundlink chain
Round steel link chains according to DIN 22252 can be used as mining chains, conveyor chains, planer chains or bucket elevator chains. Also available in the HO material specially developed by JDT with improved mechanical properties and thus longer service life.

S

S-Base
The lifiting equipment management program JDT sBase enables easy recording, management and documentation of slinging equipment subject to inspection, preconfigured for sling chains. Via a server-based database, the slings can be made accessible in-house for several workstations and users. Thanks to the "digital" chain index card, images and other file attachments can be assigned to a sling. The history of the inspection records proves proper inspection in accordance with the statutory inspection intervals.
S-Hook (closed)
The S-hook (closed) is a simple load hook with eye connection.
Safety lash
The safety latch is an integral part of hooks. The safety latch is used as an additional safety device to prevent the load from getting lost from the bottom of the hook.
Self locking hook / automatic hook
(EAHG)
The EAHG automatic hook is a self-locking safety hook with clevis connector for installation in a chain sling. Under load, the hook closes automatically, preventing the load from slipping out. Also known as safety load hook, self-closing hook or coupling safety load hook.
Shackle
Used to absorb tensile forces when transferring slings to fixed components and is connected by means of a screwable bolt.
Shackles
(VS)
The VS connecting shackle is a forged chain shackle for general lifting purposes.
Sheet pile chain
Lifting chain with special toggles to lift sheet pile elements.
Shortening clutch
(VKE-S)
The shortening clutch VKE-S is installed as an end fitting in an additional chain strand, with which another chain strand is shortened.
Shortening clutch
(VKS-V)
The VKS-V shortening clutch is a single shortening claw for direct attachment to the chain strand to be shortened. In the VKS-B version, it is installed as an end fitting in an additional chain strand, with which another chain strand is shortened.
Shortening hook parallel hook
(VH)
The shortening hook serves as a shortening element for a chain strand, also known as a parallel coupling hook, parallel hook or coupling shortening hook. It is installed in a separate chain strand via a clevis connection, with which the desired chain strand is shortened.
Shorterners
Component used to reduce the length of a chain strand without having to destroy the chain.
Spare parts
Spare parts for slings and points for repair by expertise.
Special Chains acc. To JDT specification
Special versions of round steel link chains according to DIN 22252 for use as mining chains, conveyor chains, planer chains or bucket elevator chains. Versions as link-tempered chain, e.g. for planer chains or as special chains with high hardness and strength for defined operating conditions.
Special construction

Special master link
Special master links adapted to customer requirements. (e.g. adapted to different crane hooks).
Spreader plate
A spreader plate is used for symmetrical load distribution when using at least two-leg chain slings.
Sprockets
Sprockets are drive wheels for chain scraper conveyors and extraction equipment.
Stress corrosion cracking
Special form of corrosion that occurs only when stress is applied simultaneously.
Surface technology
Surface technology at JDT includes blasting technology, deburring, color technology or powder coating and corrosion protection of components.
Swivel
(WG)
The WG swivel is a ball-bearing chain swivel with clevis connections on both sides for installation in a sling chain. It performs the function of an anti-twist device to prevent the chain strand from twisting.

T

Test force
Force applied to each chain before delivery.
Test mark
The test mark indicates the next inspection date of the sling/chain suspension in accordance with BGR 500 and is mounted on the respective sling/chain suspension.
Test service
Inspection of slings by a competent person at the customer's premises.
Theipa Block Connector
THEIPA block connector is a chain connector and is used as a connecting element for mining chains.
Theipa Flat Connector
The THEIPA flat connector is a chain connector and is used as a connecting element for mining chains. Due to its universal applicability, it is one of the best known and most frequently used chain connecting elements in mining. The THEIPA flat lock is suitable for horizontal use in flat, combi and F-Class® chains, for round steel chains according to DIN 22252 it can be used horizontally as well as vertically.
Theipa Point
(TP)
The THEIPA Point TP is a ball-bearing, rotating screw-on attachment point, also known as an attachment swivel, swivel jack, swivel head lifter, swivel ring, double swivel ring, load bracket, load swivel or swivel ring screw.
Theipa Point - F
(TPF)
The THEIPA Point TP-F is a ball-bearing, rotating attachment point with internal thread for bolting on, also known as an attachment swivel, swivel jack, swivel ring, double swivel ring, load bracket, load swivel or swivel ring screw. Fastening by a screw according to DIN EN ISO 4014, strength class 10.9 crack-tested.
Theipa Point - S
(TPS)
The THEIPA Point TP-S is a ball-bearing, rotating attachment point for welding on, also known as an anchor swivel, swivel jack, swivel head lifter, swivel ring, double swivel ring, load bracket, load swivel or swivel ring screw.
Tightening torque
The tightening torque is a physical force that causes a rotational movement of a certain body around an axis of rotation and is referred to by the distance between the force, the so-called point of application, and the axis of rotation, i.e. the lever.
Tool making
Manufacturing of high-precision tools used for the production of workpieces and products. JDT has its own tool shop and thus covers all internal requirements for tools for machines and plants. Thus, we meet the high precision and quality requirements of our processes and products.
Traverse
It is used in constructions or as a load suspension device when slinging loads and whenever loads have to be suspended distributed over a certain width or special slinging angles or inclination angles have to be observed.

Visual inspection
Visual inspection of slings. For best assessment, the slings must be cleaned.

Welding technology
Undetachable connection between components. Ideally, this connection can absorb the same forces as the individual components.
Wind power
Electricity from wind power is playing an increasingly important role in the course of the energy transition that is currently underway. JDT has many years of experience in the construction of wind turbines with the use of its specially developed sling systems. Due to the constant increase in size and weight of the tower segments, JDT has developed a variety of counter plate systems. In combination with our ENORM grade 10 slings and the special THEIPA Point ball bearing sling swivels, a load capacity of up to 100 t can be guaranteed during erection.
WLL Working Load Limit
Maximum permissible mass to which a load handling attachment may be subjected.
